
Europol, the European Union’s police agency, on Monday he communicated the arrest of 49 people accused in various ways of being part of an international drug cartel that controls about a third of cocaine trafficking in Europe. The arrests were carried out by the police forces of six countries – Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates and the United States – which have long been involved in the investigation called “Operation Desert Light” and aimed at both command centers and to drug trafficking logistics operations in Europe.
The latest arrests were made between 8 and 19 November in Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates. Associated Press writes that around 33 tons of drugs were seized during the investigation and that those arrested are also accused of money laundering.
