A New Jersey mother’s prayers have been answered: her four-year-old son lost in the woods has been found safe and sound. At her side is the family dog Labrador who never left him alone.
It all began last Wednesday afternoon when the little one moved away from his home in Buena Vista, Atlantic County and got lost in the woods. His mother said she could hear his cries for help, but she could not locate him and so she called the local police to help.
After an hour of searching, finally the moving moment of the discovery, filmed by a policeman’s bodycam: when the group of agents understood where the little one was, they accelerated their pace until the crying child next to the his black dog. The bodycam agent yells at him, “We’re here, man.” And the child runs towards him with his arms outstretched and, between sobs and tears, says to him almost guiltily: “I’ve lost my shoes”. A woman in uniform picked him up and immediately reassured him: “We took them, my friend”.
To make that moment even sweeter, the dog, a black Labrador retriever, thought about it, who also jumped on the agents realizing that the nightmare was over. And then again he stood in front of everyone once again almost as if he wanted to protect his little friend’s return home. After the hug to the mother, the child and the dog were examined and neither of them was injured during this bad experience.
Now the mother knows how important that dog is to her and to her son, a faithful friend she can always count on as recalled by the many comments received on social media: “My God that Labrador protected the child” writes a woman. And then again: “Someone should tell that dog that he is a good boy: he stayed with that little one”; “That dog is the best”; “What an amazing dog…he stood by this little boy the whole time…dogs are better than people in so many ways. I am so glad this had a happy ending and we will never know how that dog protected that child”.
