Probably in his heart he had already given up, he had thought that unfortunately there was nothing he could do: allergies to dogs, which he shares with his mother, would have prevented him forever from having a puppy.
Instead, the eleven-year-old boy protagonist of this story received a wonderful surprise: his mother gave him Autumn, a poodle puppy with whom the human immediately established a very strong bond.
The poodle is one of the “hypoallergenic” breeds; the definition is improper from a scientific point of view, but indicates the lower production and diffusion of allergens (linked to its small size and less hair loss) compared to other breeds. However, this is a generalization; every human being can develop a personal allergy.
Lynsey Chapman, the baby’s mother, asked her husband about film the first meeting between their son and the dog. When the woman lifts the blanket under which she had hidden Autumn, the boy almost doesn’t believe it: he turns to his father to see if it’s a joke, then he bursts into tears of joy and rushes to hug his parents.
Now the two are a steady couple. Even when he has to do his homework, the child doesn’t want to be separated from Autumn; if she has to type on the computer, he keeps her on the legs.
“She’s been asking for nothing more than a puppy for Christmas and her birthday for years,” Lynsey said. Once she discovered that her son was not allergic to poodles, the mother was able to give him this wonderful surprise.
The baby couldn’t be happier – and he doesn’t even risk sneezing.
