Occasionally he can understand that meteorites land on our planet and can cause some damage, as it seems to have happened recently in New Jersey. With a diameter of about 15 cm, the item does not appear to have been officially confirmed like a space rock, at least for now, but it appears to be one.
The evidence, however, is clear: according to a recently prepared report by the Hopewell Township Police Department, it is believed that the incident may be related to the Eta Aquariidsor a meteor shower that reached its peak last Saturday during the early hours of dawn.
Luckily no one was injured, but the rock that may have come from space has the roof of the house completely collapsed and landed on the hardwood floor of the New Jersey family, then ricocheted around the room and did more damage.
“It seems that whatever came from the sky fell through the roof of the upper window which is my father’s bedroom‘ a family member told local media. ‘We think it’s a meteorite, it hit the floor because it’s completely damaged, it bounced off this part of the ceiling and then landed on the floor.“
This is certainly a rare event, although scientists estimate that dozens of tons of meteoric material can be found in the Earth’s atmosphere every day. Meanwhile Derrick Pitts, chief astronomer at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, told CBS that the meteorite could be four or five billion years old.
By the way, here is the first evidence of a meteorite hitting the Earth.
