Thursday the US journalist E. Jean Carroll he denounced former US President Donald Trump for sexual assault and defamation: Carroll had accused Trump of rape three years ago and last September he said he wanted to sue him on the basis ofAdult Survivors Act, a law recently passed by the state of New York to allow victims of sexual assault to sue years after the assault. Carroll said he would file the complaint today, November 24, the day the law formally went into effect, and so he did.
The facts at the center of the complaints go back over 20 years ago, when Carroll met Trump in the Bergdorf Goodman department store in New York and he penetrated her against her will. To the complaint for the alleged violence, Carroll added one for defamation, for some statements made last month by Trump on his behalf: the former president would have defined Carroll’s accusations «a hoax and a lie» on the social network he created Truth Social. Carroll had already sued Trump for defamation in 2019, when the then president denied the allegations and claimed that Carroll had made everything up to “try to sell her new book”.
