Angolan attorney general Helder Pitta Grós said on Monday that an international arrest warrant had been issued against Isabel dos Santos, daughter of former Angolan president José Eduardo dos Santos and for many years considered the woman richest in Africa.
Isabel dos Santos has long been under investigation in Angola for a series of crimes, including money laundering, trafficking in illicit influences and forgery of documents. The investigation that led to the arrest warrant refers to the period in which dos Santos was president of Sonangol, the Angolan national oil company, and during which she allegedly amassed a huge fortune illicitly, according to Angola’s Attorney General .
Isabel dos Santos does not live in Angola, and since the investigation was launched she has never agreed to be questioned by the country’s authorities, despite repeated requests. It is not known exactly which country you are currently in, and for this reason the Attorney General of Angola has asked Interpol, the International Criminal Police Organization, to issue a red notice in his regards. There red notice is the most well-known tool used by Interpol and consists of a request to the authorities of a country to locate, arrest and extradite a criminal or suspect.
