
Saturday night in Afghanistan They’re dead at least 19 people due to a fire inside the Salang tunnel, on the mountain pass of the same name about a hundred kilometers north of the capital Kabul. The fire was caused by the overturning of a tanker full of fuel: at least 32 people were injured, in some cases seriously, and the fire was only extinguished on Sunday.
The Salang tunnel is almost 3 kilometers long and is located at an altitude of about 3,400 meters. According to local authorities, the death toll and injuries could rise. In 1982, at least 400 people had died in the same gallery, also due to a fire.
