The rescue of Betty, a former stray female who emerges from the shelter to enter a house with a new family, makes hearts melt. The endless joy of this little dog is contagious. The cute clip was shared on TikTok by Joy Bastow (@joybastow), co-founder of the animal rescue service Healing Hearts Rehab. Betty now lives on a farm: she has two acres to “farm” and her new owners are training her to protect sheep in a corner of Texas.
The video shows Betty, a year-old female dog running excitedly around the animal shelter. She playfully jumps on people in the shelter, before continuing to pace back and forth across the room with her tail wagging the entire time. “Betty will do great in her new home,” Bastow told Newsweek, “she will be happy and spoiled.” TikTok users are raving about the adorable dog, with tons of views and comments.
Betty was found, hiding in a tree near a busy road in Temple, Texas in December 2022. An animal lover tried to get close to her, but she was terrified. The man began leaving food for Betty while he posted on local lost pet groups, hoping to find her owner. He also asked Bastow for help. “We loaded up on snacks and once there we realized we had to set a trap for her because she was scared and growling at us,” Bastow told Newsweek. “She was starving. We loaded her up and took her home to receive medical care”. She had severe vaginal prolapse. Prolapses can cause infections and problems urinating. Betty was also found to have anemia, a urinary tract infection, a high white blood cell count, and hookworms in her intestines.
Surgery was required to repair the prolapse, as were antibiotics and vaccinations. Two weeks later Betty was almost physically healed, but her mental scars would take much longer. Bastow’s mom spent months giving Betty the love and support she needed. Now the overflowing furry enjoys almost 2 hectares of land, where she can let off steam as much as she wants and enjoy the love of her new owners.
“Betty is looking great in her new home. She finally can be happy and pampered all day long,” rejoices Joy Bastow, relieved to know that her little protégé is in good hands. The overflowing hairy ball now enjoys almost 2 hectares of land, where she can let off steam as much as she likes and enjoy the love of her new masters!
