Bianchina, the dog who for more than 10 years had become the mascot of the historic center of Mazara del Vallo, has died: she lived between piazza della Repubblica, piazza Plebiscito and the town halls. Now the councilor Gianfranco Casale wants to dedicate the health shelter to her memory.
Bianchina was known by everyone, tourists and residents: she walked in front of pubs, restaurants that reserved a meal for her, in church, even during city council meetings in front of the former Carmelite church, and then she walked behind the processions and the guides tourist.
“It had become a symbol of the love of the Mazaresi for animals, it was really the dog of all the Mazaresi”, says Casale. During the legislature of the former mayor Nicola Cristaldi for years Bianchina was paired with another mestizo who was called Nicola: the two dogs lived in the squares of the city and used to rest inside the former Jesuit College, ending up photographed by tourists
