Mr Fabius Philip never would have imagined to witness an extremely rare event never filmed before: the birth of a baby sloth in daytime hours. It happened on May 6th Bussolengoin the province of Veronato the Living Nature Park.
The phases of the birth followed one another in a rather short period of time, and without complications. Wendy, this is the name of the mother of the little sloth, she gave birth continuing to move among the branches of the tree on which she was clinging. The newcomer is healthy and will soon have a name.
“Sloths live their lives almost entirely upside down in trees,” he explains Camillo Sandri, zoological director of Parco Natura Viva – including activities such as mating and childbirth. Wendy, already mother of 6 children and 4 times grandmother, gave us two really exciting minutes. As soon as her baby was almost fully born, she helped him by pulling him onto her and placing him on her belly, where she would look out on the world.”
