The second weekend of Carnival in Venice closes with 145,000 presences in the historic city, 75,000 on Sunday alone. Compared to Saturday, the number of tourists from the cities of Veneto, which traditionally prefer Sundays, has increased: they were 21,000 compared to 8,000 yesterday.
There was no shortage of guests from outside the region (about 20,000) and above all foreign citizens, 34,000. According to the analysis of the telephone cells elaborated in the Smart Control Room of the Municipality of Venice located in Tronchetto, presences from hundreds of nations have been registered; most foreign tourists came from France (21%), Spain (13%), Great Britain (12%) and Germany (10%).

It was a Carnival weekend in Venice particularly full of masks, shows for children but also traditional events such as the first parade of the Maries. There was no crowd in Piazza San Marco as in the pre-covid era, but there were queues in the calli and in the landing stages, especially at the time of return. To attract the many tourists the rich and widespread carnival program called this year “Remember the future”, during which there is a competition for the most beautiful mask, which will be decreed on 1 March on the basis of criteria that will look at creativity and originality.
