“We must take note that the territory is fragile – said Fabrizio Curcio – we have more than 94% of our Municipalities subject to landslides. They have coastal erosion and flood risk, with a very high population exposure. And we are only talking about hydrogeological risk. We have more than 620,000 registered, i.e. known, landslides. We have a largely seismic territory, in some areas and Regions all Municipalities are classified with significant seismic importance. We must acknowledge that the beauty of our territory is discounted with its fragility. Awareness is the first point, which must be institutional in the first place – continued Curcio – with the management and resources on the instability, the prevention activities in general and then as citizens find a way to be more present and push them more even in the awareness of politics, politics meets the citizen’s need ” .
And then with some regret the Head of Civil Protection interviewed by Fazio said: “I can only talk about prevention during emergencies, it’s dramatic at all levels, today we are here to talk about it because unfortunately there is a tragedy” .
“We must broaden the topic of discussion even when we are not in a dramatic event: non-structural prevention, civil protection culture, awareness, training, correct behavior in which the Department is investing heavily, but then there is also structural prevention, there are things that cannot be achieved except with this”.
And speaking of the earthquake: “We have to make the infrastructure safe, behavior can help us, but it is clear that it is not enough”.
