Thanks to the testamentary donation of 600 thousand euros by Fernanda Rafanelli, a Florentine who has decided to allocate her huge fortune to three excellent structures in the area in the care of children, the elderly and animals, the Animal Park of Florence, which is the kennel municipality in the Ugnano area with a hundred strays, it will become bigger with new boxes for abandoned specimens and for boarding houses for dogs and cats. In addition, photovoltaic systems will be installed on the roofs.
Yesterday the formal deed of donation, in the presence of the lawyer Nicola Boschi executor of the will, the mayor Dario Nardella, the environmental councilor Andrea Giorgio and the staff of the kennel. The expansion project, agreed with the Local Health Authority and the Order of Veterinarians, provides for new shelters and boarding boxes for dogs and cats (12 and 10 respectively for an investment of 350 thousand euros), the reorganization of the clinic and the construction of new isolation boxes in the health facility in viale Corsica, managed by the ASL.
“We are proud to receive this donation – declared Mayor Nardella – which demonstrates how our Animal Park is a reality of excellence and an example of an avant-garde structure dedicated to animal welfare. Many interventions have been made over the years, such as the operating room and the birth of the boarding house, always sold out every summer. But what pleases us most is the high number of adoptions, on average 85 dogs a year out of a hundred arrivals”.
