In the opening match of the Men’s Soccer World Cup, Ecuador beat host country Qatar 2-0. In a game largely controlled by Ecuador, the goals were scored in the first half, both by striker Enner Valencia. Qatar — the only newcomer to these World Cups — didn’t make a good impression: they never managed to react to the disadvantage and finished the game without even a shot on goal, demonstrating the great difficulties they had in setting up the game.
