Several explosions occurred this morning two air force bases in Russiato Engels it’s at Ryazan, approximately 600 and 480 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, respectively. The first, in particular, would host strategic bombers Tu-95 and Tu-160 with nuclear capability already used in these nine months of invasion, as also confirmed by recent satellite images, while the tanker planes responsible for in-flight refueling would be located in the second.
The Russian state news agency RIA Novosti, several hours after the events, reported a statement by Ministry of Defenceaccording to which “ithe Kiev regime, in order to damage Russian long-range aircraft, it has attempted to strike with Soviet-made unmanned jet aircraft at the military airfields of Diaghilevo in the Ryazan region and Engels in the Saratov region”, but nevertheless “at about 15 hours Moscow a mass attack was launched on Ukrainian targets and all 17 indicated targets were hit”. The Ukrainian Air Force he however claimed to have shot down 60 of the 70 missiles fired by the Russians.
Moscow also reported “minor damage” to two aircraft and added that they would be shot down some Ukrainian drones. Earlier, the same agency wrote that in Ryazan it is a fuel truck exploded and three servicemen were killed and six others wounded, and one aircraft was damaged, while Roman Busargingovernor of Russia’s Saratov region along the Volga River, said there was no damage to civilian structures.
The New York Times points out that “the Engels air base and the Ryazan military installation are located beyond the range of any missile known in the Ukrainian arsenal”. So far no official comments have come from Kiev on this matter. However, just yesterday the public holding company Ukrobornpromactive in the defense sector, had announced on television that he had concluded the experimentation of a new drone able to hit up to 1000 kilometers away.
