In Tapiola, a district of the city of Espoo in Finland, 24 people, including many children, were injured when a temporary walkway installed at a construction site collapsed.
According to police, the pedestrian bridge collapsed around 9:30 in the morning. Most of the injured, who fell a few meters, are students from the Kalasatama middle school who were going on a trip to the Emma Art Museum in Tapiola.
According to the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, the children were transferred to Bridge Hospital, New Children’s Hospital and Peijas and Jorvi hospitals. Most of the hospitalizations occurred for broken limbs.
“Several people fell a few meters when the bridge collapsed. There is an ongoing investigation,” police said in a statement.
