Over 20 years: Ford’s absence from the Formula 1 race circuits has been going on for a long time. From 2026, however, the Blue Oval will return to the track. “The news is excellent for the sport and we are thrilled to see it together with the other brands already present in Formula 1”, commented Stefano Domenicali, CEO of the famous championship: “Ford is a global brand with an incredible history in racing and in the automotive world and our commitment to be ‘Net Zero Carbon’ by 2030 and introduce sustainable fuels in F1 cars from 2026 is an important reason behind their decision to enter F1 – we can’t wait for the Ford logo to race on the circuits most iconic of F1 2026″.
Domenicali refers to the new F1 regulations, which focus heavily on “carbon neutral” synthetic fuels and the extreme electrification of propulsion units to bring together environmental reasons with those of traditional motorsport. Moreover, Ford is also the third engine manufacturer with the most victories in the “Circus”, having powered Lotus, McLaren, Williams, Jordan, Benetton and Jaguar over the years. The single-seaters powered by Ford therefore earned 10 Constructors’ World Championships and 13 Drivers’ among the curbs.
Returning to Formula 1 “is the beginning of an exciting new chapter in Ford’s motorsport adventure, which began when my great-grandfather won a race that helped launch our company,” said Bill Ford, executive chairman of the American giant. : “Ford is returning to the pinnacle of the sport, bringing with it a long tradition of innovation and sustainability to one of the most coveted stages in the world.”
The president of the FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, was also enthusiastic: “There are few manufacturers that can boast such a motoring history as that of Ford. The decision to return to F1 is excellent news and confirms both the goodness of the new regulations and the importance of the greater interest in this sport from the United States”.
