Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, who has been in Florida since December 30, 2022, he asked a tourist visa to be able to stay in the United States for another six months, now that his previous visa is about to expire. According to what was communicated by his lawyer Felipe Alexandre, the request for Bolsonaro’s visa, on the possible approval of which there is no information, was made on Friday. Alexandre, founder of law firm AG Immigration, said: “I think Florida will be his home away from home for a while.”
An investigation authorized by the Brazilian Supreme Court is underway against Bolsonaro, which in mid-January had accepted the request of the prosecutors who are dealing with the investigation into the assault on parliament and other institutional buildings carried out in early January, in the capital Brasilia, by Bolsonaro supporters.
The accusation against Bolsonaro focuses on the fact that shortly before the assault on institutional buildings by his supporters, the former president had shared a video on social networks in which he claimed that the electoral victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the new president of Brazil, was false and was the result of a conspiracy against him hatched by various institutions, including the Supreme Court. There is no evidence that there was any fraud or irregularity in the elections, and all international observers believe Lula’s victory was legitimate. Furthermore, Bolsonaro is being investigated for abuse of power and other allegations that precede the elections and do not concern the assault on parliament.
