After attracting attention with the release of the Google Bard AI in 180 countries (in English) and with the reveal of many new features related to the chatbot, BigG focused on the future of search engines, focusing on a novelty that it could rewrite the web. In between is AI and everything it’s called Search Generative Experience.
on the stage ofGoogle I/O 2023 Edition it has in fact been shown how the Mountain View company actually intends to integrate artificial intelligence features at the same time as its widely popular search engine. For now, everything is related to an imminent preliminary stage which will be launched in the United States of America both on Chrome for the desktop and at the same time as the Google application (interested users will have to go through the “Labs” program), but some demos were shown at Google I/O.
In the latter, what has been shown is the presence at the top of the search results of a large box for AI answers, which can then lead, through quick buttons, to having a more in-depth conversation with the artificial intelligence (for example, through further “predefined questions”, a bit like, moreover, it also happens in other similar services). In short, the aim is to have the AI answer questions in an “integrated” way in Google, “moving” the classic search results downwards. In case you’re wondering, yes: taps are clearly enough to learn more about the sources used for the answers.
BigG was keen to clarify, already during the event, that all of this aims to keep intact the reliability of the answers, choosing sources using the “robust” systems it has built over the years. Google has also indicated that it is aware that the ecosystem underlying the Web is very important to maintain, but for more precise information relating, for example, to how the advertising business will be contextualized in all this (i.e. the one that actually allows keep “standing” what is available on the Web) we will have to wait for other events.
Net of this, it is important to underline how with Search Generative Experience Google is in fact aiming at also have the AI generate quick buying guides. Yes, you got it right: as you can better understand through the screenshots at the bottom of the news, looking for, for example, a bicycle and entering more information about what you are looking for, a long list of ads with price and “quick review summaries” made by AI.
In short, reference is made to issues that could in fact rewrite the web as we know itgoing to quickly provide users with a large number of information directly in a card positioned at the top of the search results and generated through artificial intelligence (which can then be followed by a more in-depth “conversation” with the AI).
Clearly there are still several knots to untie before being able to launch everything for the huge number of Google users (and in fact will start in a limited phase from the United States of America, even if in the coming weeks everything could be extended to other countries), but what was shown contextually at the 2023 edition of Google I/O “sounds” a lot like the future of the world of online searches (this also considering that clearly it will be possible to make more “generic” questions, for example asking the AI to create a description of a post, summarize a topic and so on). We’ll see: for now, you might want to take a look at the Google Labs official portal for more details.
