After verbally assaulting his mother on the street in Altamura (Bari), a 37-year-old incited a large dog, an Argentine Dogo, against passers-by. A volunteer from the Animal Protection Association (Anpana) also intervened on the spot to try to reassure the animal who, however, bit him in the arm without wanting to let go.
The carabinieri were thus forced to shoot him down with two pistol shots. The owner of the dog, who was clearly impaired, was arrested for bodily harm and resisting a public official. The attacked volunteer, a 57-year-old, is hospitalized and his life is not in danger.
