iPhone 15 could be a small revolution for Apple, thanks to much-requested innovations such as a new camera, solid-state buttons and a new battery. Another absolute novelty, however, could be that a making iPhone 15 will no longer be Foxconnor at least it won’t be just Foxconn anymore.
The indiscretion comes from WCCF Techwhich explains that Apple would be looking at other suppliers after the case of the Foxconn workers’ riots of the past two weeks and after the announcement by Beijing of the continuation of the hard line against Covid-19, which will still involve long total lockdowns, such as the one affecting the city of Zhengzhou , where Foxconn is headquartered.
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple could lose millions of iPhone 14 units due to the production difficulties of Foxconn, arriving at Christmas with completely insufficient stocks of its smartphones compared to consumer demand, which could thus move towards other devices. Kuo himself explained that, precisely to prevent the problem from happening again in the future, Apple would be looking for other companies for the production of his melafonini.
In this case it would be an absolute novelty, since Foxconn has an exclusive contract with Apple for the production of iPhones: the Chinese company, in fact, is the only manufacturer that manufactures Apple smartphones and, to escape the restrictions of the Beijing government, has already begun to relocate part of its production to neighboring Vietnam and India.
Meanwhile, however, Apple is playing a different game, bringing the productions to the United States strategic for its devices: only a few hours ago, for example, it emerged that the Cupertino giant would have forced TSMC to move the production of 4 nm chips to America by 2024, after having already lobbied for the inauguration of an American line of 3nm chips.
Given the current state of the hi-tech industry, it’s unlikely Apple severs all ties with Foxconn in the coming months: on the contrary, the Chinese company could still receive most of the iPhone 15 orders for next year. However, other producers should soon establish themselves alongside Foxconn, which over time could even replace it.
