Farideh Moradkhani, the granddaughter of Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei, was sentenced to three years in prison for supporting the protests that erupted in Iran after the killing of Masha Amini in late September. The human rights activist was arrested on November 23 after the publication in which she called on the international community, in particular “freedom-loving” countries, to cut all ties with Tehran and expel its diplomatic representatives in their countries to protest the crackdown on protests.
The sentence was announced by Moradkhani’s lawyer in a tweet relaunched by the Iran Wire portal. The press release states that the woman was tried by a religious court, with no jurisdiction over the casewho initially sentenced her to 15 years, which was later reduced to 3 years.
In recent days, the sister of Supreme Leader Badri Hosseini Khamenei, the sister of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Farideh’s mother Moradkhani, has always published an open letter on social networks in which expressed the hope to “soon see the victory of the people and the fall of this tyranny that now rules Iran”. “I oppose my brother’s actions”, wrote the dissident Ali Moradkhani’s wife, accusing Khamenei of “not listening to the voice of the people” but that of “mercenaries and hoarders”.
