It is well known that dogs are considered man’s best friend. But what Magnus has been doing for some time in the United States is something really special, perhaps unique. His loyalty to the owner, Brian Benson, is total and he knows no obstacles. So much so that, since the man was hospitalized about ten days ago for a serious form of cardiomyopathy, he has never left the facility and never loses sight of the patient, 24 hours a day. hospital allowed Magnus to be close to him as if he were a close family member. “By now everyone here knows him,” say doctors and nurses.
Brian’s hospitalization occurred after the man complained of excruciating chest pain. “I was short of breath – he says – I went to the emergency room to get checked. They kept me for three days doing all kinds of tests and analyzes and constantly monitoring my heart. The doctors have discovered that the situation is very serious, my heart is weak and beats much faster than it should. It’s all probably related to my family history of heart disease and heart attacks (especially at a young age). Even though I’ve been working out for over 35 years, I eat healthy, ran the NYC marathon and am extremely lucky to have family, friends and of course my Magnus.”
Magnus, 6, is a beige Labrador who has quickly risen to a public figure on social media. “He always finds a way to support me – adds Brian – he helps me stay calm and relaxed. He even made the doctors and nurses smile while we were there. The reason Magnus was allowed to stay with me is because he is also my trained guide dog. I am very grateful to be Magnus’ father and to have him in my life.” The video of the dog lying next to his owner in the hospital reassuring him before undergoing treatment immediately went viral. Images that arouse affection and emotion and show the indissoluble bond between the four-legged dog and its owner.
In a few days, views literally exploded, reaching 12 million. “We love you, Magnus, you are very special”, “Feel better soon. God bless this beautiful bond between you”, “Sending you love, special big dog”. These are some comments. Brian shared a post to express his gratitude for friends, family and pet. “Thankfully, Magnus was allowed to be with me 24/7. He did exactly what he does best: keep me quiet to take my mind off the health situation I’m currently in. He knows when it’s time to cuddle and when to play with me. I love more than he will ever know.”
