While the first details about the Google Pixel 7a and Pixel 8 are revealed, a huge new leak seems to shed some light on theGoogle’s entire lineup from 2023 to 2025 in the smartphone sector, also revealing a couple of surprises among the products that Big G could announce in the coming months (and in the coming years).
The leak comes from colleagues of Android Authorityand confirm that the first Google smartphone of 2023 will be Pixel 7a, which has the code name “lynx” and which will be launched during the Google I/O next May, as has become tradition for the “a” line of phones of the Mountain View giant. What is more interesting, however, is that Pixel Fold will also arrive in May, and not at the beginning of 2023 as many thought.
Later in 2023, Google will launch Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. According to the leak, the base model Pixel 8 will be slightly smaller than the current generation vanilla Pixel 7, while the Pixel 8 Pro will be nearly identical to the Pixel 7 Pro, both in terms of design and in terms of specifications. However, the new top of the range from Big G will have a Tensor G3 chipset developed by Google and Samsung.
In 2024 it will be the turn of Pixel 8a, maybe. We say “maybe” because it seems that Google has not yet decided whether to keep its releases annually midrange or whether to veer towards a two-year release, a bit like Apple does with the iPhone SE. Furthermore, it seems that the Pixel 8a will cost about $50 more than the Pixel 7a and 6a, with a starting price of $500 in the United States.
Also in 2024, then, the Pixel 9 lineup will arrive. It seems that the Pixel 9 line will count three devices, and not two as per tradition: there will in fact be Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and a third model of the Pro line, which will combine the technical characteristics of the top of the range with a more compact form factor and a 6.3″ screen. All three devices will use a Tensor G4 chipset.
In the end, in 2024 a new foldable smartphone will arrive, which could be a “clamshell” phone or a successor to the Pixel Fold, should the latter be successful. Big G’s plans for 2025, on the other hand, are more hazy: if the Pixel Fold is successful, we will also see a foldable smartphone in 2025 (the clamshell above or Pixel Fold 2); if instead the foldable will not collect public consent we will be faced with a Pixel 10 line with four devices instead of two (or three). The latter will be two “basic” models, respectively with a 6.1″ and 6.7″ screen, and two “Pro” models with a 6.3″ and 6.7″ screen.
