Waiting to officially arrive with the calendar, winter is starting to make itself felt: a mega snowstorm has brought northern California to its knees in these hours.
A foot of snow fell across large swathes of the state, with more than thirty thousand people left without electricityto. Up to one and a half meters of snow is expected in the Sierra Nevada.
Emergency situation in various cities, from Sacramento to Solano, from Colusa to Placer. Traveling was advised against. In the mountains there is a risk of avalanches. A section of Highway 89, the highway that runs through California, has been closed to traffic.
The heavy snow was joined by the wind, which blows at speeds of up to one hundred kilometers per hour. The state of emergency is expected to last until tomorrow when the storm could move towards Colorado and Wisconsin, and then reach Florida by Friday.
