Last April, Microsoft Edge became the second most used browser in the world, overtaking Safari and catching up with Google Chrome. Reaching the Big G browser is impossible but, according to recent statistics published by StatCounter, the product of the Redmond company is gaining ground.
In fact, during November 2022, Edge reached a 11.17% market share in the category of the most used desktop browsers globally. Compared to 10.86% in October, it is not far away, but it is an important growth if we consider that in November 2021 it was 9.52%.
Contributing to the growth of Microsoft Edge could be the forced switch from Internet Explorer to Edge on older computers. However, the most influential factor remains the continuous improvement of the service with new features, including the Wallet introduced in September 2022 to facilitate web purchases and automatically search for coupons and offers to apply on the main international e-commerce sites. Or again, during Ignite 2022 Microsoft released unpublished features such as Microsoft Edge Workspaces and advanced security mode. Furthermore, the possible boom in purchases of Microsoft devices such as Surface Laptop 5 and Surface Pro 9, launched in recent months, should not be underestimated.
However, the increase in market share remains limited to the desktop browser: the general share (thus considering desktop, mobile and tablet) remains 4.45%, against 18.67% for Safari and the 65.86% of Google Chrome. In addition to the PC, however, similar growth remains unthinkable.
Speaking instead of the Google home browser, a taste of the Material You design has recently arrived on Chrome.
