The map of the diversity of the human genome is ready: if until now the term of comparison for analyzing DNA was a sort of artificial sequence, now each individual’s DNA map can be compared with the genetic maps of all the others, bringing out characteristics hitherto impossible to see.
The result is due to the international consortium Human Pangenome Reference, it is published in 4 articles in the journals Nature and Nature Biotechnology, also with the contribution of Italians.
The Pangenome revolution begins, which promises much more precise diagnoses and treatments, from rare diseases to infertility.
Gerardo D’Amico talked about it with the director of genetics of the University of Tor Vergata Giuseppe Novelli.
