The imminent launch of Android 13 Open Beta for Nothing phone (1) removes any doubts regarding the future of the most talked about smartphone of 2022: the team led by Carl Pei is focusing on improvements for the company’s first mobile device. Consequentially, Nothing phone (2) remains very distant.
To confirm the company’s willingness to focus on the phone (1) for fix bugs and complete the transition to Android 13 was the CEO himself on Twitter, where it reads as follows: “Phone (2) will not be introduced soon. We focus on doing a few things right and won’t be churning out dozens of products a year like many other brands. Phone (1) is our current focus. We are preparing something really great in terms of software, towards Android 13 and beyond”. The reference to competing brands such as Redmi, Samsung and the like it is evident: better few devices but good and cared for.
The reasons behind this decision were made partially known during the recent video review of the iPhone 14 Pro made by Carl Pei on the official Nothing YouTube channel: in this nice context, the founder of the company revealed that the profits deriving from the sales of the phone ( 1) are practically equal to zero, as it is basically a product conceived in order to launch the name in the sector. Now that it is famous for its particular design and competitive price, it has the sole goal of perfecting the software and, only then, proceed with the development of a possible phone (2).
More important in the eyes of the brand is undoubtedly the debut of a smartwatch with a style as characteristic as that of phone (1) and ear (1): a potential watches (1) it would fit perfectly into the ecosystem and help make Nothing a respectable brand not only for the technology offered, but also in the fashion world, thanks to its communicative approach.
