Like every year, Pantone’s announcement of the color of the year is a real media event. Fashion, beauty, technology and design are eagerly waiting and as soon as the shade is proclaimed, they immediately launch themselves in pursuit of the trend, with a range of online products. The color for 2023 is 18-1750 Long live Magenta. It’s not really a red, rather an unconventional and therefore more special shade. “This color has an ‘experimental spirit’, ‘The Magentaverse’ (#magentaverse will become the most followed hashtag on social media) is a new color for everyone” declares the Pantone Color Institute team. A color that represents optimism, resilience, thinking outside the box. A shade that encourages you to explore revolutionary possibilities, even with the Artificial intelligence.

Pantone 18-1750 Viva Magenta writes a new chapter. Courageous and fearless, a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes optimism and joy. It’s a red that encourages experimentation and self-expression. Bold, witty and inclusive, Pantone 18-1750 Viva Magenta welcomes anyone and everyone with the same rebellious spirit.
A nuanced crimson red tone that features a balance between warm and cool, but is also a hybrid colour, which straddles the line between the physical and the virtual, evocative of our multidimensional world.
Meaning
“In this technology-driven era, we seek to draw inspiration from nature and what is real,” explains Laurie Pressman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. “Pantone 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family and is inspired by the red of the cochineal, one of the most precious natural dyes as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has ever known. Rooted in the primordial, Pantone 18-1750 Viva Magenta reconnects us to the original material. By calling upon the forces of nature, she galvanizes our spirit, helping us build our inner strength.”
“The past few years have been changing, for people and for their well-being, and now it is necessary to give space to priorities and identity”, adds Laurie Pressman. “As a result arises the need to create a space in which to feel free to explore and be accepted, whether it be a cybernetic universe, a conventional space or a magical blend of both. We are creating a dynamic world that encourages experimentation, that exploits the virtual within the physical realm and encourages our spirit to explore revolutionary possibilities”.
The exhibition dedicated to the new colour
In collaboration with Artechouse of Miami, Pantone on 3 December, an immersive exhibition dedicated to the new color will be inaugurated. “The path will take visitors on a journey of colors, textures and more, focusing on the relationship between art, technology and science to showcase the Pantone Color of the Year 2023 in all its forms,” Pantone points out. Through the text to image Midjourney Artificial Intelligence generative tool, a project was developed for the occasion made up of ‘rooms’ with different textures and interaction models, in which the public can immerse themselves in a series of multisensory experiences guided by the spirit of Long live Magenta.
In fashion, beauty, technology and design

Just a simple color, or something more? First of all we associate this name with the Pantone Matching System which was developed in the 1950s to be able to classify colors and “translate” those of CMYK four-color printing simply thanks to a dedicated code and the meaning that is associated with it. Since 2000, Pantone has indicated the “Colour of the Year” every twelve months, i.e. the color that will be the protagonist for the following year and which will act as chromatic inspiration for the world of fashion, cosmetics and design. The choice is made by the Pantone Color Institute, which brings together a group of international color experts in two secret annual meetings in a different European capital each time to determine which color will be the following year. Let’s decline it now in clothes, accessories, design and beauty.
