We have already told you about “The Line”, a futuristic 500 billion dollar city built in the middle of the desert and capable of accommodating up to nine million people. However avant-garde the idea is, the means to enable the creation of this utopian city were dystopian and they have also led to the deaths of innocent people.
Meanwhile, construction progress appears to be visible prominently in new satellite images, courtesy of Soar Earth, that show a large area of active construction siteswith some spots already dug deep below the surface.
About 26 million cubic meters of earth and rock have already been removed since construction started this summer, while visual records show 425 excavation vehicles at work on the only section of the project. In the vicinity of the construction site there is also a sort of “home base” which has several swimming pools, soccer fields and even a solar farm.
Although the idea behind the creation of this “oasis” is certainly important, according to what has been declared by many international media, Saudi Arabia has forced members of the local tribal community to leave their homes to make room for the projectalso leading to several death sentences of innocents.
Critics have also also referred to the city as a overly ambitious vanity project that he probably won’t keep his promises… but in this case we leave the arduous sentence to posterity.
