St. Petersburg municipal deputy Nikita Yuferev has asked the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office and the Interior Ministry to initiate a criminal case against the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, under the article of the Criminal Code on the dissemination of “fake news” about the Russian army.
Yuferev asks to check the Russian president’s speech, delivered at a December 21 press conference for the Kremlin’s journalistic pool in Moscow, during which he uttered the word “war”. “Our goal is not to spin the flywheel of a military conflict, but, on the contrary, end this warand we are fighting for it and will continue to do so,” Putin told reporters.
“A few thousand people have already been convicted of such words about the war,” Yuferev explained.
Last September a report was drawn up against Yuferev for “discrediting” the army, after some regional deputies asked the Duma to indict Vladimir Putin for high treason, for having unleashed the war in Ukraine.
