From the Caribbean beach to the front, to atone. It is the ‘choice’ of Maxim Vasilyev, Russian regional deputy who had been engulfed in controversy for posting photos from his New Year’s holidays in Mexico while the war was raging in Ukraine. Thus the announcement to the Ria Novosti agency: he will make amends by going as a volunteer “in the special operation zone”.
However, the regional deputy specified that he will not have “weapons in hand”, adding that the trip had been planned for 2022. The controversy over his holiday photos, together with those of another regional deputy in Dubai, have led governors and other authorities to discourage foreign travel by elected officials. In fact, many Russian internet users had asked for Vasilyev’s resignation as a deputy of the assembly of the Kursk region, after he had released a picture of him on the beach, in a flowered shirt, in front of a laden table with beer and food.
