Safe Holidays is the new road safety campaign promoted by Assogomma and Federpneus in collaboration with the State Police.
More than 10,000 cars circulating on the roads of our country will be subject to checks, the new one Safe Holidays campaign Its purpose is to check the state of the tyres.
Driving with flat tires, even for short stretches, can affect safety as well as increase fuel consumption. You must always have tires in good condition and inflated.
From 16 May to 14 October it is forbidden to drive with M+S tires and with speed codes lower than those indicated on the registration certificate.
In the event of a violation, in addition to the fine, the vehicle will also be stopped, on the subject the Director of the Traffic Police Service observes “The failure of a tire or the high wear of the tread can cause serious road accidents.
Therefore it is extremely important that the tires are kept in perfect working order. As Police we always recommend checking the condition and wear of the tires without neglecting inflation pressure and balancing, especially before long journeys.
The strengthening of the specific checks carried out by the Traffic Police in 2022 in the so-called High-impact operations, which saw the use of 2,498 patrols, allowed a total of 15,664 vehicles to be checked and 10,275 violations to be contested. Of these, 664 concerned tires that were inefficient due to a lower tread than prescribed; 271 tires with cuts or incisions on the tread and 144 violations for tires not adapted to seasonal requirements. There were no violations for tires with altered construction and/or functional characteristics (31 violations) for non-approved tires (21 violations) and tires with sizes other than those indicated in the registration certificate (18 violations).”
Fabio Bertolotti, Director of Assogomma: “With an increasingly old car fleet, car maintenance must assume a fundamental role in road safety and tire care occupies a place of absolute importance. Also due to a road surface that is too often neglected, full of holes and depressions, it is necessary to schedule periodic checks by the tire specialist to have a visual check of the condition of the tires and correct inflation, also and above all in view of the long distances that will characterize the summer holidays. Inflating and checking, although the Specialist Dealers carry them out free of charge, are not carried out periodically by motorists. In fact, over 52% of motorists circulate with underinflated tires”
