The story of Bankman-Fried it was so absurd and sudden that it caused a real earthquake in the crypto world, to the point of inspiring the production of an Amazon series on the collapse of FTX. The legal history, however, is still to be written.
FTX’s bankruptcy filing, in fact, is only the beginning of a long and tortuous legal dispute in which Sam Bankman-Fried himself will be called to testify before the US Congress.
His testimony in the House it will probably happen remotely, but some members of the Senate Finance Committee have threatened to sue him if he refuses to appear here as well.
“I still don’t have access to much of my data, both professional and personal, so there’s a limit to what I can say and I won’t be able to help as much as I’d like”, reads a recent tweet of his. “Since the committee still thinks it would be helpful, I’m willing to testify on the 13th“.
A twist, especially in the light of the wishes expressed previously, according to which he would not have appeared in the legal office before having analyzed and reviewed the whole situation and above all the elements that led to the fall of the cryptocurrency giant. An invitation that was probably accepted after reflections by Maxine Waterspresident of the commission who had pointed out to him how “your role as CEO and your interviews” were already sufficient elements to make his testimony more than crucial.
