The latest data from the telephony world spoke of a nose-diving smartphone market, with Apple as the only growing company. To give us a further overview of the segment are the recent analyzes by TrendForce, which confirm the decline in smartphone production in the third quarter of 2022.
As echoed by colleagues from PhoneArenathe estimates published by TrendForce speak of a total of approx 289 million units produced in Q3 of the current yearfor a decline quarter-on-quarter by 0.9% and a year-over-year decline of 11%. The negative trend surprises analysts for one simple reason: it is the first time in years that there has been no growth in the third quarter of the year. The cause is most likely to be found in an inventory filled in recent years, just as consumers are less inclined to purchase smartphones, especially in the mid-range.
Looking at the individual brands, Samsung produced 64.2 million devices, about 3.9% more than in the second quarter of 2022. Apple has grown similarly, increasing production to 50.8 million iPhones. In third place is Xiaomi, which also counts the sub-brands Redmi, Poco and Black Shark, followed in fourth place by the block of OPPO, Realme and OnePlus. Finally, the duo Vivo and iQOO ranks fifth.
Meanwhile, the smartwatch market grew 30% in 2022 according to Q3 data.
