Ten people were rescued by rescuers after being swept away by an avalanche in the ski area of Lech and Zuers in western Austria. The avalanche detached from Mount Trittkopf around 3 pm on Christmas day and reached a ski slope. One person was recovered after a few minutes, while the other nine required several hours of searches.
Shortly before 1 am, the Austrian police confirmed the location of all the missing persons. Four people are injured, including a man buried for a few hours by the snow: he was taken by helicopter to the hospital in Innsbruck. Over 200 rescuers were engaged for hours in the recovery operations.
