Divers Reinhard Santoso and Ribka Malise were diving in the sea off South Bolaang Mongondow, North Sulawesi, Indonesia, when a pod of killer whales suddenly appeared.
The footage shows the animals circling among the colorful fish in the blue waters near the coral reef.
Reinhard said he saw orcas three times.
The first time there were three orcas swimming to the right of the divers.
“The second time, two killer whales suddenly appeared as if they were dancing in front of us. They were very close.”
Another pod of seven orcas was seen following the divers’ boat as they returned to shore.
Killer whale sightings are rare in Indonesia. A herd had been sighted in April 2020 in the Anambas Islands area, another near East Flores and North Sulawesi in late June of the same year.
