After the amendment to the Budget Law against IPTV andpezzotto, AGCOM is also preparing to crack down on the phenomenon of illegal streaming. In fact, the Authority would be ready to modify the regulation of resolution 680/13/CONS of 12 December 2013.
In fact, Il Sole 24 Ore reports that in the meeting held yesterday by the Agcom board, the modification of this regulation to protect online copyright was discussed, with the goal of acting promptly (within 30 minutes) against sites offering illegal streaming via the IPTV system. A final decision has not yet been made, but it will still be discussed on December 21st when the Agcom commissioner Massimiliano Capitanio is expected to present the changes.
Capitanio intends to include in the regulation a procedure to speed up the precautionary measures instantly, with the sites closing in half an hour. This novelty would go hand in hand with the development of a technological platform to be made available to rights holders who will have to report pirated sites to Agcom, receiving their closure as an immediate response.
However, the unknowns around this system continue to be many and it will be necessary to understand who will be entrusted with the management and above all the timing of the launch. We will update you as more details emerge.
