This morning another violent missile attack hit Kyiv and the inhabitants returned to take refuge in the underground stations. A sad déjà vu since the beginning of the Russian aggression. While above-ground air raid sirens rang again, people waited calmly on the stairways, in stationary train carriages and along the platforms.
In a station a man started singing the national anthem involving the people around who filmed him with cell phones even as he improvised a dance with a woman. A way to lift morale by driving away the fear and unease of the danger looming on the surface. At one point one of the people present shouts: “Slava Ukraïni!” the salute that has become a symbol of Ukrainian resistance.
Metro services in Kyiv were suspended this morning due to the rain of missiles that hit the capital. Forty according to the Ukrainian authorities. This was announced by Mayor Vitali Klitschko, on Telegram: ”Underground traffic is temporarily suspended on all branches. Metro stations function as shelters. The air alert continues! Please stay in the shelters!”
The mayor added that the water supply was also affected by the attack: “Due to the damage to the energy infrastructure, there are interruptions in the water supply in all areas of the capital”.
The Russian army has launched a barrage of rockets on different parts of the country, the second such attack in a few days. In Kharkiv and Poltava there were blackouts while in Kryvyi Rih two people died and five others were injured.
