Yesterday we talked about the Chinese spy balloon discovered by the Pentagon over the American skies, which further increased tensions between China and the USA. Apparently it’s not the only one.
General Patrick Ryder of the Pentagon indeed announced last night that a second spy balloon was discovered, this time over the skies of Latin America. “We are receiving reports of a balloon in transit in Latin America. We are now assessing whether it is another Chinese surveillance balloon” he has declared.
The exact location of the spy balloon has not been disclosedbut according to what an official told CNN, at least at the moment it would not be headed for the United States.
The balloons in question are unmanned and according to the version released by the Chinese government, they would have entered American airspace due to some incidents of force majeure. Representatives of the People’s Republic of China also dismissed the hypothesis that they were carrying out military-type espionage (the former flew over some bases equipped with nuclear weapons), and explained that they are “civil airships used for mainly meteorological research purposes which have limited self-governing capabilities and have greatly deviated from the initially planned course”. Despite this, however, the tension between the two superpowers remains very high.
