Volka was neglected by her former master for 12 years: she lived in a small room without love or attention. The deaf dog found her happiness thanks to Angélique, a dog lover who recently adopted her after meeting her in the Buigny-Saint-Maclou shelter: she gave her a second youth after so much pain. The woman noticed that the dog never went for walks and had never known hugs.
After five months of her adoption Volka has made enormous progress and has transformed. Although she is deaf and elderly, she catches every gesture and has found peace and serenity under the new roof. Angélique is proud of the results achieved by the black dog, who gets along well with five other dogs who live with her: Guess, Nana, Chipie, Câline and Mounia.

Volka was adopted as part of the 30 Million Friends Foundation’s Operation Doyens, which encourages the adoption of dogs aged 10 and over and funds all vets’ costs up to €600. Volka’s story proves that it’s never too late to give an abandoned and neglected pet a second chance, and that love and attention can make all the difference in a dog’s life.
“She has transformed. Despite her deafness, she catches every gesture. I think she feels that there is not an iota of wickedness in this house,” says Angélique, that she can no longer get away from her new four-legged friend.
