After seeing what the characteristics of a perfect hug are, let’s see the new robot made exclusively for this: giving hugs.
A team of researchers from the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, has created after years of research a robot called “HuggieBot 3.0″, i.e. the latest version of an android able to recreate human hugsbringing comfort and lots of cuddles to others.
The moment we stop to reflect on all the various activities robots can help us with, we most likely embrace them they are not the first thing that comes to mind. However, it seems that some robots have amazing talents.
The new HuggieBot 3.0 is in fact able to recognize human contact based on the gestures of the person in front of it, in order to guarantee a real “perfect hug”. The chest and arms are constructed with soft material similar to the skin of a real person, and is also characterized by various sensors capable of calculating the degree of pressure to be used.
It should be emphasized that the team of experts started working on a similar robot as early as 2016, but only today, six years later, some of the volunteers who let themselves be embraced by HuggieBot 3.0 declared that they feel much more understood by the robot compared to previous versions.
Although it is clear that nothing can ever replace a human hug, the creators are already working on a fourth version which should improve its performance even more. However, bearing in mind that now there is also the duration of the perfect kiss, one wonders if it might not be better to leave more room for spontaneity, rather than calculating everything “perfectly”.
