They risked dying due to the very low concentration of oxygen contained in the water.
Thousands of dying fish, amassed in the Orchetto stream, a tributary of the Po, in the municipality of Chivasso, were rescued by Arpa technicians and by the faunal surveillance of the Metropolitan city of Turin.
The lack of oxygen in the stream water was confirmed by laboratory analyzes in recent days, which ruled out the presence of chemical pollutants and ascertained that the fish risked asphyxiation. The technicians then recovered about two tons of carp, tench and catfish that were released into the Po.
Soon after, a net was installed to prevent fish from being trapped in the canal again in the future.
