Bears Jj4 and Mj5 are safe, for now. The TAR of Trento has temporarily suspended the culling order against the Jj4 bear and the Mj5 bear until 27 June. By that date, animal welfare organizations and the Ministry of the Environment must present a detailed transfer project as an alternative to killing. Among the most probable hypotheses a sanctuary in Germany, Romania or Jordan.
The hearing on the merits will be held on December 14th. “We believe that up to this date bears cannot be killed,” comments Lav.
The bear Jj4 is held responsible for the fatal attack on the runner Andrea Papi which took place on April 5th. The animal is currently locked up in one of the bear pens in the Casteller centre. The Mj5 bear who is still in the wild: the accusation of having attacked a hiker last March is pending against him.
