It’s not just the ban on Kanye West’s profile that keeps the attention high on Twitter. In fact, according to a report, hate speech is skyrocketing on the platform. Meanwhile, Musk is trying to get advertisers back.
Starting from the issue of hate speech, as reported by The Verge And 9to5Macresearch by the Center for Countering Digital Hate reveals that tweets of this type have increased dramatically following the takeover by Musk. According to the report, after the entrepreneur took ownership, the number of insults aimed at transgender people increased by 62%.
The number of discriminatory tweets related to skin color rose from 1,282 tweets per day to 3,876 tweets per day after Musk took over as CEO. It also appears to have reached a peak of 4,650 tweets per day. In short, the data released by the Center for Countering Digital Hate, which are based on the social media analysis tool Brandwatch and concern tweets in English from all over the world, seem to outline a negative picture for the platformdespite Elon Musk recently saying that views of hate tweets have dropped by a third since he took over the company.
For the rest, as far as the escape of advertisers from Twitter is concerned, the story has been enriched by a further chapter, as also reported by ArsTechnica And The Wall Street Journal. Indeed, it appears that they have been offered advertisers “generous incentives” to return to advertising on the social network. Put simply, according to the sources, Musk is offering a kind of “buy one get one free” promotion: for example, a phased spend of $500,000 would entitle you to a “100% added value”, up to a million dollars. Everything would be active until the end of 2022.
