Yoel Roth, former Twitter security chief who blamed Apple and Google for the problems encountered by the platform in recent weeks, returned to talk about the state of the social network in a new interview. Roth explained that he is convinced that Twitter is ‘less secure’ because of Elon Musk and its management.
In an event of the Knight FoundationIndeed, Roth replied to an interviewer who asked him if he believed that, with the arrival of Elon Musk, the social network would have become more secure, in terms of vulnerability to cyber attacks, compared to the previous management. There Roth’s response was peremptory: “I do not think so”commented.
The reasons behind Roth’s words may be different: the former head of security of the social network, in fact, has unexpectedly resigned only a few days the arrival of Elon Musk in the role of CEO, without providing particular explanations on the reasons for his dismissal. However, if what was reported by the ex-manager were true, there would be many reasons for concern: only a few days ago, in fact, the data of millions of Twitter users ended up online, obtained thanks to the exploitation of a known and unpatched vulnerability for weeks from the social network.
Roth, who was a longtime member of the policy team of Twitter, was one of the few executive to speak openly about campaigns of trolling planned at the table to exploit the new rules implemented by Elon Musk, using them to explain the high number of racist slurs that appeared on the platform after the new CEO took office. Musk himself has repeatedly referred to Roth to explain the complex situation of Twitter, at least before he resigned.
In the same interview, Twitter’s head of security also spoke about the reasons behind his firing, admitting that he has viewed the arrival of the new CEO with optimism, at least for some time. Just a break in the “procedural legitimacy” of Twitter, whatever that means, would have alienated him from Elon Musk and, then, forced him to resign.
