While waiting for the amnesty granted by Elon Musk to Twitter accounts to become operational, the CEO announced that on Friday 2 December the new profile checker and the “checkmarks” will return.
The new owner of the social network explained in detail the new procedure for verifying people’s identities, consisting of a manual authentication process defined by the South African himself “painful but necessary”.
The news does not end here, because the check marks will be expanded and of various colors:
- Gold for companies
- Grey for Governments
- Blue for individual accounts
The decision to diversify the check marks and to verify the profiles by hand was a must after the chaos that arose at the launch of the new Twitter Blue subscription, later withdrawn due to the proliferation of fake accounts that pretended to be famous personalities and sported the blue check.
“Sorry for the delay, we will tentatively launch Verified on Friday next week” announced Musk who specified the activation of the “gold tick for companies, gray for governments, blue for individuals (celebrities or not). All verified accounts will be manually authenticated before auditing is enabled”.
The hope is obviously that the chaos of a few weeks ago will not be recreated.
