The rector of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra monastery, Metropolitan Pavlo, denounces being put under house arrest by the Ukrainian authorities. This is what we read in the Tass agency, which refers to a video released by the rector of the monks of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church headed by the Moscow Patriarchate who defied the ordinance of the Kiev government which asked them to leave the monastery on past.
The government has taken the measure, after having searched the site last year, because it believes that some religious leaders have maintained ties with the Moscow Patriarchate even after the break last May. Dozens of clerics were arrested on treason charges. The 11th-century monastery is the cradle of Orthodoxy.
