US conspiracy theorist Alex Jones filed for bankruptcy on Friday, after he and his website company in recent months InfoWars they had been sentenced to pay a total of almost one and a half billion dollars for spreading false news about the massacre that took place in 2012 in the elementary school in Sandy Hook, Connecticut: the money was requested as compensation for the families of the victims of the massacre. In essence, with the bankruptcy Jones claims that he does not have enough money to pay.
The extent of Jones’ personal assets is not known, but to file for bankruptcy he provided documents stating that he had assets between $1 million and $10 million, and debts between $1 billion and $10 billion. The large sentences against Jones are considered more symbolic than anything else, because he has always maintained that he does not have such sums of money at his disposal: also by virtue of the bankruptcy presented, it is therefore probable that the families will never receive the expected compensations.
