Freezing gusts on Mount Washington in New Hampshire yesterday produced a freezing wind with a temperature of -77 degrees with gusts at nearly 200 km/h. The US National Weather Service reported it, adding that it was the coldest wind ever recorded in the continental United States. Nearly 100 million people in the northeastern US and Canada are shivering from arctic winds. Authorities have warned that freeze could strike in as little as 10 minutes and have called on residents from Manitoba to Maine to limit their time outdoors. Mount Washington (1971 meters high) has the reputation of one of the places with the most difficult climate in the whole world: on April 12, 1934 the gusts reached 231 miles per hour, a good 370 kilometers per hour, marking an unbeaten record for years.
